New year predictions: Julian Hocking, Nationwide Print

As the owner of PrintWeek’s reigning SME of the Year, 2014 was a year to remember for Nationwide Print’s Julian Hocking. Passionate about print and its need to attract young talent, he more than proved his youthful credentials with a selfie with PrintWeek Awards host Jimmy Carr.

A burgeoning economy.

What trend (business or technology) do you think 2014 will be remembered for?

The rise of social media.

Intransigence. You have to keep moving forward at all times.

What’s the one thing that the industry should do more of, or do better, in 2015?

Training the younger generation. Print has an ageing workforce.

What was your biggest disappointment in 2014?

The lack of interest in print generally, which gives us a smaller talent pool than most industries.

What was your highlight of 2014?

Nationwide Print winning the PrintWeek SME of the Year award. Of course.

Increase margins.

What’s your favourite Christmas cracker joke?

Q: Why does Father Christmas wear a hat with a bell on it?
A: Because he’s a t**t.

Who will win the Rugby World Cup in 2015?

As long as Wales do not win it, I don’t mind…
