MITIE secures PwC document handling work

MITIE has won a 50m contract to manage and distribute documents for one of the world's biggest accountancy firms.

The five-year deal with PricewaterhouseCoopers is the firm's largest to date and includes repro services, stationery supply and mail and distribution.

It will support around 30 offices by tackling publications warehousing, archive control and management of multifunctional print equipment.

It is believed MITIE won the work from Williams Lea, which handled reprographics for audit files, research and pictorial documents for staff, and Astron, which handled mailing services.

More than 100 staff from PWC and its current providers will transfer to the business services division of MITIE, which has a turnover of 819m and employs 32,000 people in the UK.

"The client has undergone a reshaping exercise to minimise its supplier base and give responsibility to a single organisation," said joint managing director of the division Mike Oppenheim (pictured).

Oppenheim said the tender process was the most "thorough and innovative" he had gone through in over 20 years. "It was not a paper exercise."
