The MB CAS 52 Select 2, which is compatible with IBM, Oc, Xerox and Canon digital printers via its interface, can take a maximum sheet size of 52x85cm.
Mike Biggs, managing director of UK distributor Encore Print Finishing Equipment, said: Digital printing and print-on-demand have become sectors with an increasing need for speed and simplicity. There has been a lot of interest now that weve found its market.
The MB CAS 52 Select 2 is operated from a computerised display, on which the sheet size is selected from a touch screen. The folder then automatically sets all buckle plates and engages deflectors.
Biggs added: Its secret is a moon-shaped lip on the deflector, which can be switched on and off very quickly at running speed. All it needs is a signal as to the size of the next sheet.
Encore hopes to have news of its first installation very shortly.
Dunstable-based Encore is the UK distributor of MB folding machines and is also a distributor of Shoei folding equipment. Biggs set up the five-staff firm last year following his departure from Smyth-Horne (PrintWeek, 9 November 2001).
It has since signed agreements with finishing dealers across the country, including Ashgate Automation of Watford, Total Print Finishers of Weston-super-Mare and Leicesters Contact Print Services, giving it access to engineers.
There are over 60 engineers and over 10 sales staff. We can effectively service the country, said Biggs.
