The full-colour graphic, which is made up of 600 500x500mm rubber carpet tiles, was produced on the 6-staff companys three Mutoh 6100 wide-format presses.
Getmapping used four planes, flying at 5,500 feet, to produce the photography needed to reproduce 1,600km2 of the capital. Design consultants A Touch Creative in Basingstoke oversaw the London PhotoMat project.
Matatak International managing director Jim Nicol said that because the photography had been done over 16 days, the company had to compensate for each days slightly different lighting and cloud conditions when printing.
We had to adjust for that but the end result is absolutely stunning. I didnt realise just how green London was, said Nicol.
Matatak International specialises in the production of printed floor mats and counter mats for the promotional sector.
