Local MP visits Point Control

Trade finisher Point Control Print Finishing was visited by its local MP last week to coincide with the firm’s PUR binding of the new Burnley FC programme for the 2019/20 Premier League season.

Labour MP for Haslingden and Hyndburn Graham Jones took time out of his summer recess schedule to visit the Accrington, Lancashire-based business on Friday 9 August.

Jones had worked for nearby Daltons Printers for nine years from 2001 before becoming an MP in May 2010.

“We first met Graham two years ago at the BPIF members’ day. We were there again this year but he couldn’t come down as he was away on government business, so we contacted him and he said he’d be happy to come down here to see us for a chat,” said Point Control managing director Richard Berwick.

During his site tour with Berwick, Jones saw the first Burnley FC programmes coming straight off the eight-staff company’s Muller Martini Primera binding line.

Printed by B&D Print Services in Preston, the programme has changed to a square format incorporating a new 6pp cover with a perforated flap that contains tear out collector cards.

To crack the club’s precise format request, Point Control said the programme required multiple conversations and a collaboration of skillsets from design to print, book binding, spot UV and cutting form specialists prior to production.

“We had a few meetings with them and trial runs to make sure it was designed and produced so that it would go straight through the binding machine without any hitches,” said Berwick.

“Graham thought the programme was really good, a nice product.”
