The running of the business, which was founded in 1973, will be passed on to Richard's son, Steve Foster.
During Richard's tenure as its chief, the business relocated several times, starting at Barking before ending up at its current location at Buntingford in Hertfordshire.
"Leading Edge will still offer the great high-quality service it always has," said Steve Foster.
"We will continue to produce cutters for the print, packaging and plastics trade and offer commercial print finishing specialising in quality die-cutting," he added.
Leading Edge MD Foster to leave
Richard Foster, managing director at cutter makers and print finishers Leading Edge, is to step down following 37 years as managing director of the business.
