Killer app: Weedon PSC gets box clever with TV vet Joe Inglis

Weedon PSC worked with TV vet Joe Inglis to develop on-shelf packaging for his Vet's Kitchen natural pet foods.

What did the job entail?
Hednesford, Staffordshire-based Weedon PSC, a specialist in retail-ready packaging, produced 75,000 cartons for the brand. The packs are now in store at Sainsbury’s, Asda and Waitrose.

Inglis, star of Vets in Practice, wanted the packaging to have environmental credentials as well as being easy to open and robust in shipping to ensure it looked attractive on-shelf.

How was it produced?
Weedon PSC printed the four-colour cases on its KBA Rapida. They were then die-cut into crashlock design boxes on a Bobst Visioncut.

The boxes were perforated around the top so that the retailers could open them cleanly to ensure the product looked its best for display.

Weedon PSC managing director John Weedon said: "Joe needed his products to be eye-catching, easy to handle for hand-packing and strong enough to withstand the rigours of assembly and bulk palletisation."

What challenges were overcome?
Weedon business development manager Jeremy Hereford said: "As we were developing a completely new product, it was a challenge to find a print process that was precisely suited to the job. The perforation was key."

What was the feedback?
Inglis said: "Weedon PSC was the obvious choice, and we have been very impressed with the results!"
