Up to 200 jobs are at risk at packaging firm CPC Reading after management announced that production would be transferred to CPC Bristol and CPC Kings Lynn.
The firm has told employees that production will cease at the plant by the end of the year and will begin a 90-day consultation process with the GPMU this week.
CPCs management had been trying to find new premises locally with the help of the GPMU and Labour MP for Reading West Martin Salter, as the lease on its Oxford Road plant had nearly expired.
GPMU Home Counties West branch secretary Tony Kingston said: Its very disappointing, weve been working hard to find another site in Reading, but property prices are astronomical. The workforce are very hardworking and have been extremely loyal.
CPC is putting together relocation proposals for those employees who want to transfer to Bristol or Kings Lynn.
