The 60mW diodes are twice as powerful as the current 30mW diodes, which means the Python can expose all violet photopolymer plates including the Lastra LV2, which had been problematic with 30mW in all firms machines.
HighWater is running the new diodes at less than full power to extend diode life, without affecting productivity. The laser should last at least five years at 3,000 plates per month and potentially much longer, the firm said.
All new Pythons built from next month will have the more powerful diode as will the Esko-Graphics PlateDriver Compact, which is made by HighWater.
