GPMU to meet branches again at High Ct

The GPMUs national executive and seven of its branches are due to meet at the High Court next month.

The branches Kent, Merseyside, Central Lancashire & North Wales, Scotland, South Wales & Shires, Cumbria, Greater London and CMS are contesting the way that the South East of England Branch was created. The two sides are set to meet again on 11 November.

At an earlier High Court hearing, on 29 August, the branches failed to obtain an injunction to stop the South East of England branch competing within the territory of another GPMU branch.

A statement from the branches legal counsel at EAD Solicitors said: This court action was never wanted by the seven branches, which tried to resolve by agreement, but the proposals made were rejected out of hand. Not one settlement proposal has been made by the unions leadership.

At the last High Court hearing the union leadership agreed to conclude its separate investigation into alleged financial irregularities at its Kent branch before the end of October.
