After TPL's closure was confirmed last month, it was understood that the firm's four web presses would be heading out of the UK to Times Publishing plants in Asia or Australasia.
The Goodhead Group's web division, Benhamgoodheadprint (BGP), already runs an M4000 at its Bicester site. It installed the press at the end of 2001. The firm has picked up a number of contracts recently, including several titles formerly printed at TPL.
"At the start of the year I said I was looking to expand capacity in our commercial division," said group managing director John Cooling. "If we get an opportunity to look at this press, we will."
The TPL M4000 was one of the first new generation 48pp webs to be installed in the UK but was subject to a significant rebuild.
News that the press could remain in the country will come as a blow to magazine printers hoping for reduction in UK web capacity.
