Capable of handling sheets from 3x1.5m and featuring a conveyor system for cutting roll-printed materials, the AG/CAD-supplied machine cost £75,000 and was installed around a month ago.
Glasgow Creative Design & Print owner and director John Stevenson said: “We came across the DYSS X7 online and liked it – it’s so comprehensive in what it can do. And when we saw the Kasemake software that comes with it we knew that we weren’t going to look anywhere else.
“Our signage sales have been growing steadily and we’ve been outsourcing the cutting until now. We were really impressed by the DYSS during a demonstration by AG/CAD and we’ve been even more delighted since it’s installation.”
He added: “In addition to performing the main function that we bought it for, cutting ACM, Foamex and acrylic sheets, we’ve used it for trimming posters – a huge timesaver – kiss cutting vinyl, and as a replacement for die-cutting on short-run printed card.
“We’ve also discovered that the DYSS is great for engraving, and the Kasemake software takes us into the short-run packaging market. We hope to attract business from trade customers as well as growing the volume of cutting we do for our existing customer base.”
10-staff Glasgow Creative Design & Print turns over around £600,000 from its 372sqm premises and serves clients ranging from SMEs to large corporations including BBC, Abellio and Jurys Inn.
Stevenson said half of the firm’s factory space is currently unused, but will likely soon accommodate a new flatbed printer, which the business plans to purchase in the near future.
It currently operates roll-to-roll printers from Mimaki and HP but outsources the small amount of flatbed work that it takes on.
