Fort Dearborn rebrands as Springfield after sale

US label producer Fort Dearborn has sold off its UK pre-press and print division to its former owner for an undisclosed sum.

The deal is part of the group's strategy to focus on the US market due to "changing market and trading conditions".

Hull-based Fort Dearborn has changed its name to Springfield Solutions, having been bought by its former owner Albert Dass, who becomes chairman.

"We have had an excellent relationship with Fort Dearborn and respect its decision to refocus on  the North American market," said Dass (pictured right with managing director Ian Lemon, left and finance director Steve Forster, centre).

"Our strengths in the UK are in repro, graphics management, and niche print markets for high-quality, lower-volume and self-adhesive labels."

The UK firm was bought by Fort Dearborn in 1999, when it was largely a speciality repro operation. Both companies will "continue to have a working strategic relationship".

"We are launching Springfield Solutions with a strong balance sheet and the ability to move forward on a sound financial footing," added Dass.

Last year, as part of its restructure, Fort Dearborn sold its US repro business to Schawk and divested itself of overseas operations.

The UK operation was the last international division. "This is an exciting opportunity to build on our traditional strengths in
the UK and Europe," added Dass.
