Former Spin Offset production manager dies

Ian Dew, a former production manager and estimator at litho printer Spin Offset, has died aged 71.

Dew passed away at Saint Francis Hospice, Havering-atte-Bower, on 12 June 2016.

Born in Leighton Buzzard in 1945, Dew first worked as an apprentice compositor in 1960 for London-based, Fleet Street printer MG Scott.

After completing his apprenticeship and getting married, he became assistant works manager at MG Scott.

He went on to become works and production manager with Stellar Press, a production manager with Richard Edward, and finally to Spin Offset, where he retired as an estimator in 2010.

In retirement, he embraced his love for all things creative and took up painting, drawing and photography.

Dew's wife described his professional nature as firm but fair and someone who didn't suffer fools gladly.

She said: “Ian had a great sense of humour and a kind, caring nature. He was a gentleman loved by many people and will be sorely missed. He started and finished his working life in a trade he loved.”

Dew is survived by his wife, sons Christopher and Russell, daughter Suzanne and two grand-daughters Maria and Violet.

His funeral will take place at Corbets Tey Crematorium, Upminster, on Tuesday 28 June at 12.30pm. All friends and colleagues are welcome to attend.
