Ex-Blacketts staff join forces to put together digital print firm

Three former Wyndeham Blacketts employees have formed a new digital print company in St Ives, Cambridgeshire.

Tim Egan, Paul Foley and Mike Gleeson have banded together to create PMT Digital, which will produce mainly wide-format work.

"We felt that we all had more to offer, and being part of a big group was not what we wanted. We wanted more independence," said Egan, who co-founded the digital arm of Blacketts.

He added: "Our strengths are in digital and we can offer customers a lot of experience and advice. Many people are still scared stiff of digital and need to know that it is here to stay."

PMT Digital has three HP DesignJet 5000 wide-format ink-jet printers and a Xeikon 500 press. The six-staff company is targeting a first-year turnover of 800,000.

"Our strategy is to grow steadily," said Egan. "In terms of investments, we will look at digital presses that have higher grammage."

Blacketts was bought by Wyndeham last year in a deal worth over 5m.
