The deal, for an undisclosed sum, was signed at Northprint last week. The 5000 will run alongside its existing Duplo DC1200, which will be used for back-up by the Gateshead firm.
"The bulk of the work will be fold, stitch and trim in the short-run market," said Hands On Print managing director Rob Bradshaw (pictured right with Duplo regional sales manager Eddy Savage). "In this market it's about speed of turnaround and we're getting a lot more work from the digital market."
"That whole sector has been driven by digital and on-demand print," added Savage.
The deal comes during a busy time for Duplo after it signed another kit deal with Leicester-based print firm Optecon. The company bought its first Duplo Bufalo 500 perfect binder which will run alongside its Xerox iGen3 digital press.
* Also during the show, Duplo announced its partnership with Hewlett-Packard (HP). HP's latest version of its Yours Truly Designer workflow comes with a special tool to create the barcodes that automate the Duplo Production Digital Colour Finisher and the DC-645 cutter and creaser.
