Income in 2001 slipped by 1.8% to 132,386, and the institute, a registered charity, reduced its deficit from 21,355 to 14,136.
The figures were helped by a near 10,000 leap in donations and similar incomings, mostly as a result of sponsorship from Oc.
The IOP held its AGM and annual conference last weekend, and in a break from tradition held it on the boat Queen of Scandinavia as it sailed between Newcastle and Amsterdam.
Chairman Tony White said the institute was much more pro-active now.
