A machine, which is being referred to as the DocuColor 8080, was being shown by the digital printing giant to a select few, subject to signing a non-disclosure agreement, at Drupa.
Details that have leaked out so far are that it is an 80 A4 page per minute device. Significantly, as well as the higher speed, the new device is thought to boast improvements to the image quality to make it more of a rival to HP Indigo presses. One source described it as "a 6060 on steroids". It is expected to be shipped in the UK in October with a price of around 250,000.
As PrintWeek went to press Xerox declined to comment. DocuColor product marketing manager Kevin O'Donnell said: "8080, that's a wide-format printer from Oc isn't it?"
