DM firms used W&D envelope kit to cut costs

Telford-based Mail Solutions has enhanced its blank-fed envelope manufacturing operation and installed a secondhand W&D Classic machine.

It bought the machine for just over 300,000 from Hugh Imlay, an Aberdeen-based manufacturer that closed down its envelope production operations in June.

"It is the missing link in our manufacturing offerings," said group managing director Alan Griffiths. "We're very excited about it. It will allow us to offer existing and potential clients the full spectrum of envelopes."

The company currently produces over 140m transactional mailing wallets per month. It posted pre-tax profits of 2.6m in March and has an annual turnover of 25m.
