Concern over new Vio pricing model

Vios return has been welcomed although there is concern about the firms new, more expensive, pricing model.

Firms already signed up for the service include Colour Systems, Readers Digest and "a number of national newspapers". Those in negotiations include Emap, IPC and Haymarket.

There is concern from many that Vios eleventh hour and fifty-ninth minute reprieve was too late.

"You cant come back at the eleventh hour and expect people to just come back," said managing director Miranda Clegg. "Its going to take time. It took two years to build up in the first place. The main issue is to retain relationships."

Clegg expects more firms to sign up over the coming months as new products based on technology from partner Acquire Media become available (PrintWeek, 6 July).

"Everyone has made contingency plans," said ET Heron technical marketing manager Jon Hearnden. "But hopefully people will get behind it. Vio has always delivered what we wanted."

"The softwares intuitive and its service is good," said Colour Systems technical director Simon Berg. "But Im not impressed with the pricing structure."

But Clegg countered: "We have the knowledge to really make workflow sing. Clients have to understand the value of that and whether they can justify outsourcing it."
