CMYUK has been appointed as a specialist UK partner with Canon for the rollout of the manufacturer’s Colorado 1650 roll-to-roll system.

Launched in May last year, the 1650 is a 1.6m-wide, four-colour system which uses Canon’s UVgel ink technology to increase ink ‘stretchability’ from its predecessor, the Colorado 1640.

Shrewsbury-based supplier CMYUK will be showcasing the machine across three open days at its showroom on 25-27 February which will mark the official introduction of the 1650 to the distributor’s portfolio.

Senior digital sales consultant Sue Hayward said: “We are delighted to add UVgel technology to our digital wide-format printer roster. This roll-to-roll machine is attracting users that are outputting volumes of 15,000sqm per annum and uplifting the performance of applications such as self-adhesive vinyls.

“The ability to opt for matt or gloss prints at the touch of a button on a single machine demonstrates the sheer flexibility of the printer, creating opportunities too within premium level markets such as décor and interiors.

CMYUK will offer alongside the Colorado 1650 its Consumable Supported Asset Finance (CSAF) scheme – a loyalty structure in which the supplier will contribute more towards a customer’s monthly payments on the new machine the more that the customer spends on consumables with CMYUK.

The Colorado 1650 incorporates Canon FLXfinish that allows the user to choose between matte or gloss modes for each individual print without the need to change inks or media. It also enables printing on porous media, such as uncoated papers and soft signage materials by enabling each ink droplet to be cured immediately on jetting, preventing absorption by the substrate.
