Print businesses seem to have escaped recent flooding in England with only minor disruption.

There have been three major storms over the past week, with heavy rain causing flooding in a number of areas.

Bewdley and Shrewsbury in Shropshire were hit as the River Severn flooded, parts of York also flooded again, as did Ironbridge and towns along the River Wharfe in Yorkshire.

Simon Nash, manager at Talbot Print in Shrewsbury, which has a high street presence close to the historic English Bridge across the Severn, said the floodwaters had come “quite close” but the firm had escaped any damage.

“Some of the local roads were closed, which caused disruption, but the road slopes away from us and we were not affected by any flooding,” he said.

Copywrite, located on the other side of the river in the town, was unable to access its premises yesterday due to the flooding, but was busy printing again today.

“It happens every year,” said print finisher Anita Martin.

“We are back up and running today and customers are coming in.”

JPS print management, which is located close to the River Wharfe in Otley, also avoided disruption.

“We can see the river but fortunately we are quite high up in an elevated position,” said commercial director Bridget Petty.

In February 2020 a number of printers around the country were hit by flooding after two powerful storms.

Printworx in Bewdley was one of the firms flooded out prior to the first lockdown in 2020. The firm had not commented on this week’s flooding at the time of writing.
