Graham Lawley handed in his notice last week after landing a job with another, as-yet unnamed, firm.
In a statement, the group said that Lawley was on gardening leave before joining his new employer. The firm said: "We wish him well with his new venture."
Marketing manager Sarah Philp said the terms of Lawley's departure from the firm, which specialises in typesetting, printing and binding for academic, educational and not-for-profit organisations, were still being finalised.
Following Lawley's departure, the group is being managed by executive chairman Neil Charlesworth. UK operations are being run by production director David Boothman and sales director Marion Morrow.
It is unclear whether Charlesworth will seek a direct replacement for Lawley.
