The latest production figures from the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI) show output of 22.9m tonnes, down 1.6% from the first quarter of the year, although production in that period was a CEPI record.
Production in the graphic sector rose 1.4% to 11.2m tonnes, while newsprint output rose 2.4% to 2.5m tonnes as recovery continued from the relatively low levels of 2002.
Total pulp production reached 9.7m tonnes, up 2.8%. Mechanical pulp production output rose 2.4% to 3.3m tonnes, while chemical pulp output reached 6.3m tonnes, an increase of 3.1%.
