The additional device, which was installed last month, has joined existing Perfecta and Wohlenberg guillotines at the Clayton-Le-Moors-based firm’s 2,000sqm site.
Managing director Matthew Birtwell said the business particularly liked the Polar’s programmability and colour touchscreen.
“It’s been great so far. We’re an existing Heidelberg customer but this is the first Polar we’ve ever bought. We did look at another Perfecta, but decided on the Polar instead.
“We have very experienced operators so the switch of technology will be very easy to manage, and we will have training from Heidelberg as part of the installation process. We will run the guillotine on a double-day shift basis.”
The device will be used to cut a wide range of print, including NCR books and pads, from two B3 Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 52s, a Heidelberg Versafire CV digital printer and five Edelmann web presses.
50-staff Birtwell & Co serves print management companies and print resellers.
