Authors hit out at treatment of Quebecor staff

A group of leading American authors have called on Quebecor World to end intimidation of its workforce, signing a proclamation in a call for justice.

The authors, who include Naomi Klein and Pulitzer prize winner Ben Bagdikian have called on Quebecor to provide safe workplaces and respect their workers rights.

In September the North American print giant was formally accused by the federal government of bullying tactics at its Mississippi and Tennessee plants, in particular against US print union GCIU's members.

The accusations were in the form of a complaint by the national Labour Relations Board, and are equivalent to an indictment.

Amicus assistant general secretary Tony Burke, said the support of the authors for the GCIU was another major step in the campaign to win union rights for Quebecor employees in the US.
