Agfa forecasts sales pick-up

Agfa had a slow start to the year according to its first-quarter results, although the firm said there were signs of an improvement in March and April.

Graphic Systems, the firm's printing products division, had sales of 262m (EUR386m), which were down 7.4% (2.4% excluding currency fluctuations), which the firm attributed in part due to investment being postponed in the run-up to Drupa. Operating results fell 38% to 14.2m.

Overall the division did better than the firm's other divisions with its share up 3.9% to 44.5% of turnover. Group sales fell 15.5% to 580m and operating result fell 46% to 31.2m.

The firm was cautiously optimistic for Graphic Systems in the coming months after strong sales in March and April and the anticipated benefits of Drupa.
