De La Rue is cutting 90 jobs out of around 440 at its Portsmouth cash systems manufacturing and assembly plant to improve competitiveness.
A number of product lines will move to other European locations and several older lines will be axed.
Divisional manufacturing manager Michael Head said: "By simplifying our manufacturing operations we hope to safeguard, as far as possible, the jobs of those involved in manufacturing at Portsmouth."
