Age-wise, Steve says he is “not ready for a bus pass anytime soon!” He spent more than 30 years in the paper industry before buying in to Dukinfield-based Contact Originators a decade ago. He enjoys clay-pigeon shooting, fishing and golf and has two sons and four grandchildren: Henry, Lilly, James and Eliza.

Why did you get into printing? 

Ten years ago, I was given the opportunity to purchase the Contact Group, including Printed Cartons and Contact Originators

Who would play you in a movie about your life? 

Liam Neeson (quiet, tall Irishman)

What would you most like to print? 

Banknotes 

Have you taken up any new hobbies during the various lockdowns?

I invested in a flock of sheep to graze my smallholding and revamped my infinity Koi carp pool

Who or what do you hate most? 

Cold frosty mornings

What is your favourite saying? 

Never ASSUME because when you ASSUME, you make an ASS of U and ME

What is your favourite album? 

Pink Floyd, The Dark Side Of the Moon

What book are you reading at the moment? 

Tyson Fury, The Furious Method

Cat or dog, or…? 

I am a dog fan. I have a Dogue de Bordeaux, called Winston

What is your greatest luxury in life? 

My cars, watches and my second home in the Lake District

What is the strangest job you’ve ever done?

Upon leaving school I was employed in the entertainment industry, working in both theatres and also with a circus where I looked after lions and elephants. I still have a strong affinity with lions who are indeed the king of the beasts

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with?

Stephen Hawking one of the greatest brains of our time or Muhammad Ali the greatest sportsman of our time

What is your greatest ambition? 

To continue to enjoy life, live a prosperous life and to continue playing an active part in my grandchildren’s lives

What’s your greatest fear? 

Man’s continual destruction of our planet and the ensuing global warming, also Covid-19 and its forever impact on humanity 

Who or what makes you laugh? 

My grandchildren and also good comedians; after all, “laughter is the best medicine for life”

Where would you like to be now? 

On the beach in Barbados

The Beatles 

Where would you go if you could time-travel? 

Back to the 1960s 

What advice would you give to your teenage self? 

To learn from every situation that you encounter, good or bad

As an honest man who worked hard and would help anybody
