Why did you get into printing?
My first printing job was as a silk screen printer for a company in Horsham. I don’t think there is another print process quite like it, I loved the craft and the skill needed to get it right. It was my first taste of the print industry and from then on, I was hooked
What would be your dream job?
Photojournalist; changing the world one image at a time
Who would play you in a movie about your life?
A 45-year-old Harrison Ford, or a similar-aged Kevin Costner if Harrison is busy, which is possible. Although really, given that I work with lasers on a daily basis, Mark Hamill’s experience with lightsabers, might make him a more practical choice
What would you most like to print?
The list of people I’d like to work with grows longer every week, but the work of paper artists Hina Aoyama and Nahoko Kojima is incredible
What is your favourite film?
Blade Runner
What is your favourite TV programme?
I really enjoy Would I Lie to You, the quick wit and good/bad poker faces are always funny
Sweet or savoury?
Savoury over sweet every time. Well, every time unless there is really good ice cream, then I might be torn
Who or what do you hate the most?
Good people being taken advantage of
Who do you admire most in the industry?
Mike Taylor, CEO of Fulmar, with whom I used to work. He has a passion and inside-out knowledge of the industry. Add to that a willingness to trust his team and a talent for subtly guiding us to ensure we all headed in the same direction
What is your favourite phrase or saying?
I have a least favourite phase, that would be ‘Could you just…’ Wish I had a pound for each time I’ve heard that
What is your favourite album?
Dusty Springfield, Dusty in Memphis
What is your favourite book?
To kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
Cat or dog, or…?
Dog, I have a working cocker spaniel, she has become a bit of a Laser Bureau regular, coming with me to work on occasion and charming anyone who visits us on those days
What is your greatest luxury in life?
Good cheese. Life is way too short for mild cheddar
What’s your greatest fear?
Too many to mention; the news seems to throw up something new daily
Who or what makes you laugh?
My sons’ very odd humour. They go from driest wit to ludicrous slapstick in the space of 30 seconds
What piece of kit would you like to see invented?
The perfect natural renewable energy generator, it feels like progress is painfully slow when there are so many viable options
Which celebrity would you like to get out of here? Why?
I’m not a big celebrity follower, I can come up with a long list of politicians and world leaders that I would gladly remove from their pedestals
Most embarrassing moment?
When my best man revealed my collection of Wham! memorabilia including scrap books and drawings, the fewer people that know about that the better. Oops.
Where would you like to be right now?
By the sea
Which superpower would you like to have?
Teleportation, I could save so much time
Where would you go if you could time-travel?
Twenty years into the future, gather enough information to get the world back on track, them come back with a huge action plan
What was your childhood obsession?
Fine line between Lego and Action Man. Lego probably sneaks it
What is the worst kind of print?
Floppy takeaway menus with endless spelling mistakes
What advice would you give to your teenage self?
Study like you did when you were 10 (I was a very hard-working child!)
How would you like to be remembered?
For coming up with a cool ‘life is’ quote
Life is…?
Much better when you fear less and say yes more
