Summer Screen Prints exhibition returns to Somerset House

Print Club London will return to Somerset House next week for the start of its second Summer Screen Prints exhibition, coinciding with the 10th anniversary season of the Film4 Summer Screen outdoor cinema.

Like last year the exhibition will feature a limited-edition, screen-printed poster for each of the 16 films being shown as part of this year's Film4 Summer Screen line-up.

Contributing artists include: Rose Blake (E.T.); Kate Gibb (Annie Hall); Casper Williamson (Ghostbusters); Joe Wilson (A Fistful of Dollars); Cassandra Yap (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes); and HelloVon (Big Trouble in Little China).

The brief was sent out at the end of May, with the first drafts delivered mid-June and the final artworks handed in at the beginning of July to allow time for Print Club London's technicians to screen print 200 copies of each poster, by hand, at its Dalston-based print studio.

All of the designs are two-colour screen prints, although extra binder was added to the inks to create extra layers of colour. "Print Club's technicians have been working on tones and layering to make the final artworks look as true to the original digital designs as possible," said a spokesman.

The free exhibition will be held in the West Wing Galleries at Somerset House from 10am to 6pm from 31 July to 25 August and additionally from 6.30pm from 7-20 August for Film4 Summer Screen ticket holders.

The posters are priced at £45 each and will be available to buy at Somerset House and online at the Print Club London website.
