Q&A: Jon Dudley, sales director, Limpet Labels

Jon is 42 and has spent 19 years working at Wrexham-based Limpet Labels. His hobbies include Moto GP, sim racing and PC gaming.

What is your nickname?

‘Dud’. Quite a leap from Dudley, I know

Why did you get into printing?

Started life as a database programmer and worked for Limpet designing their MIS, and never left

What would be your dream job?

Something involving cake… and motorbikes

Who would play you in a movie about your life?

Not Warwick Davis as I’m six-foot-four

What would you most like to print?

We like anything technically challenging. Sometimes it’s not always the flashy label which is difficult to print

What is your favourite film?

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

What is your favourite TV show?

Absolutely smashed Silent Witness recently, 50 episodes in about two weeks

Who or what do you hate the most?

Pessimists. I don’t have any time for negativity

Who do you admire most in print?

My boss, Lee Goode. Great positive can-do approach

What is your favourite phrase or saying?

‘Presumption is the mother of all fuck-ups’ is pretty much my motto

What is your favourite album?

Metallica’s Master of Puppets

What is the strangest job you’ve had?

The worst was working at a turkey abattoir one Christmas. Yuk!

Who would you like to be stuck on a desert island with?

Dave Grohl for entertainment, Ant Middleton to keep me alive

What is your greatest ambition?

To retire happy and having done everything I want to achieve before I’m too old to do so

Who or what makes you laugh?

My colleagues. I haven’t had one day in 19 years at Limpet where I haven’t laughed at least once

Most embarrassing moment?

Does anyone actually answer this? It would involve my co-directors Paul and Lee

Where would you go if you could time-travel?

Go back and see all the bands I missed. Spend time with my father. Maybe combine the two?!

What was your childhood obsession?

Computer games

What was the best business deal that you’ve pulled off?

I like any deal where we take a frustrated customer and solve their headaches – then you’re a label hero!

Life is…?

Precious and to be enjoyed. My father dying in an accident a few years ago and my son, who has cystic fibrosis, have both taught me that you only get one go on the merry-go-round. So enjoy it
