ODS buys world's first HP T200 inkjet press

HP has agreed a deal for the world's first T200 with US company O'Neil Data Systems (ODS) at Ipex.

ODS was the first company to beta test the company's T300, launched at Drupa in 2008.

Its parent company, Los Angeles-based William O'Neil and Co, is launching a new publication for the financial industry and the T200 was primarily bought to handle the new title. Jim Lucanish, ODS president, was on HP's stand (12/AB150) yesterday to finalise the deal.

He said: "The financial market closes around 1pm Pacific time. From September, we will be producing a publication for financial ODS will also use the machine for short-run work, which increases the company's product range, while the T300 will be left to take care of longer-run jobs.

Lucanish added: "Sometimes the finishing messes up; you have a few short. This machine will pick up the extras, as well as handling our short-run work and leaving the T300 to fly through the big stuff. They complement each other."

The T200 was launched at the show on opening day. According to HP's Scott Schiller, the machine is aimed at printers looking to move into full-colour digital printing but who want to do it bit by bit, rather than all at once.
