Newsprinters takes Evening Standard contract

News International subsidiary Newsprinters has won the contract to print the Evening Standard.

Around 700,000 newspapers will be printed every day at the company's flagship Broxbourne facility from early 2012.

Newsprinters managing director Brian McGee said: "Newsprinters is delighted to welcome the Evening Standard to Broxbourne and we look forward to delivering a high quality service for them at our flagship site over the coming years."

Previously the contract to print the titles was held by Harmsworth Printing (HPL), which is moving its print to a new facility in Thurrock.

HPL managing director John Bird said: "The future printing options of the Evening Standard were always a consideration during the staff consultation process on our move to Thurrock and were allowed for in the conclusions reached with our employees.

"We will now work closely with the Evening Standard to provide a smooth and orderly transition of their printing to the new supplier which we expect to be completed by early 2012. HPL wishes the Evening Standard continuing success into the future."

Matt Harrison, sales and marketing director of the Evening Standard added: "Newsprinters' modern, high-speed presses and the close proximity of their printing presses to London, make this an ideal partnership.

"It will allow us to continue to provide our 1.7m readers with the high-quality, up-to-date newspaper they expect, at the time they want it."
