M-real increases folding boxboard prices in Europe

Paper manufacturer M-real has increased its folding boxboard prices by 70 per tonne in Europe.

The increase will be effective as of 1 December 2009, and the company said it has been made to cover the "severe cost inflation" it has experienced in previous years.

Mika Joukio, head of M-real consumer packaging, also said it is to compensate for rising pulp prices.

He said: "Through this price increase we are securing our ability to support our customers' success in the future."

Joukio said that along with the price increases, M-real's profit improvement has been based around internal cost savings and improvements in efficiency.

In September, M-real increased the price of its Kemiart coated and uncoated white top kraftliner grades in the UK by £50 per tonne.

Headquartered in Finland, the company produces fibre paperboard and it is a major paper supplier. Its customers include brand owners, carton printers, converters, publishers, printing houses and merchants.
