Institute of Packaging Professionals launches UK membership drive

Trade association the Institute of Packaging Professionals is to launch a UK membership drive at the London-based Packaging Innovations show in October.

IoPP UK aims to create networking and educational opportunities for all those involved in packaging, from brand managers through to packaging specialists.

The organisation, which has 9,000 members in 40 countries, will demonstrate its online training modules at Packaging Innovations London, with levels ranging from a foundation course up to the Certified Packaging Professional (CPP) qualification.

It is offering an earlybird membership rate for all UK packaging professionals, at a discounted rate of £99 rather than £125, which is available until the Packaging Innovations Show closes on 5 October.

The organisation, which was founded more than 75 years ago in the US, will be hosting a number of seminars at the show, including: speakers from Coca-Cola, which will discuss sustainability; Tesco Direct, which will focus on online packaging; and The Fairtrade Foundation, which will give a presentation on why no brand can afford to ignore the ethical consumer.

IoPP UK director and ex-vice chairman of the Packaging Society Kevin Vyse said: "Over the past few years, the packaging industry has become very silo and with certain issues – such as the increasing concern over waste – it has become apparent that there is no single, effective voice for the community of people working in packaging.

"We are trying to strip away the bureaucracy and create a vehicle that members can have ownership of and which facilitates communication across different disciplines."
