Cashin Print invests in third Heidelberg to handle pharmaceutical work

Cashin Print has invested in a two-colour Heidelberg Speedmaster SM 74-2-P to allow the business to ramp up production of its exported pharmaceutical collateral.

The Castlebar, County Mayo-based business is the first company to order from Heidelberg since the manufacturer took over the direct sales and service operation for Ireland in July.

Cashin has opted for a two-colour perfector model, which replaces an outgoing Komori press, to handle the printing of lightweight leaflet printing in two-colour single-sided operation or mono duplex mode.

Damien Cashin, managing director of the commercial printer, said the addition of the perfecting machine is the latest move to becoming a Heidelberg print house.

He said: "We bought the SM 102 first, believing that no other machine could match it on productivity for the profile of work we do. That proved to be the case and so we added the XL 75 full colour press and now the SM 74.

"We had conversations with other users who print on the same stocks and their productivity figures re-enforced our decision to purchase the Speedmaster SM 74."

Commenting on Heidelberg's decision to take a direct approach to sales and service in Ireland following the closure of its distributor Millers, Cashin said the move was a "positive thing".
