Paragon Group has added to its Service Graphics presence in London with the acquisition of creative print specialist Tod UK.

Tod UK is based in Farringdon and was previously known as Tangent on Demand.

The company was owned by former TV mogul Michael Green, who also owns the Printed Group via Tangent Communications.

Paragon said that Tod had “highly complementary activities and customers” and praised the firm’s “enviable reputation” in working for leading ad agencies and brands.

Tod director Andy Davis, who remains with the business as general manager, likened Tod’s bespoke creative offerings to “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”.

After 20 years under Green’s ownership, he said it was “a very exciting next step for Tod” that would allow the business to continue to innovate in creative print production.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic Tod had sales of around £3m and employed 30 staff.

Service Graphics managing director Mike Holyoake, the former Xerox executive who joined the business a year ago, commented: “The mix of highly sensory and visual capabilities combined with the talented staff working within Tod makes it a perfect fit for Service Graphics as we continue to expand our Creative Services proposition and deliver new, innovative solutions to our customers.”

Paragon Group rebranded its graphics wing as Service Graphics in the summer of 2019, including the former Service Point network it acquired in 2014.

Tod UK will become the Service Graphics Creative Services Centre of Excellence.

The site runs a raft of kit for in-house production including a SwissQprint Nyala 2 large-format flatbed with white, varnish and raised ink effects, HP Indigo digital presses, a Vivid Laminating digital foiling system, Kongsberg XP cutting table and finishing facilities including layflat, PUR and perfect binding, as well as book binding services.

It recently reprinted its ‘book of possible’ showcasing an array of printing techniques, including examples of printing on wood and sandpaper, and leather and brushed metal lamination.

Service Graphics has two divisions: Service Graphics Display encompassing its wide-format businesses including most recent acquisitions in that space, Octink and Image Factory.

Service Graphics Print & Design is made up of the local branch network, now including Tod.

Posting on LinkedIn, John Eager the CEO of Paragon Graphic Services said: “Tod is a really exciting addition to our business. Delighted to have Andy Davis and all the team in Tod join us in Service Graphics Print & Design.”

The Paragon Group had sales of €838m (£744m) last year, with sales understood to have breached the €1bn mark this year.

Last month the group also expanded its continental presence with the acquisition of Groupe Bernard in France.

Groupe Bernard will be integrated with Paragon’s Customer Communications wing. The business specialises in BPO and loyalty card management services.

There is industry speculation that Paragon already has further buys in its sights, despite the disruptive effects of the pandemic.
