New Onyx software promises more efficiency, less waste

Onyx Graphics has released a new version of its wide-format workflow and RIP product, featuring more than 20 new features and enhancements.

Onyx 11 is available now. The US-headquartered developer said the primary benefits of the new release were increased operator productivity, reduced waste, and better integration with customers’ existing business workflow systems.

Among the 21 new features highlighted by the company are integrated job ticketing, which makes it easier for users to track, locate and manage jobs; a swatch book tool to streamline colour matching; and revamped job previewing options that Onyx claimed can save up to 50% of job preparation time.

Job nesting, cutting, and custom sewing marks tools have also been added.

Also new is spectral calibration for consistent colour reproduction; an ability to profile speciality inks; and ChromaBoost colour technology, which Onyx claimed is a unique feature.

ChromaBoost is said to “significantly improve the appearance of bright colours on difficult-to-profile media… increasing colour intensity by as much as 40%”.

Onyx 11 is available for the firm’s complete suite of products, which includes Postershop, ProductionHouse and its Thrive workflow software.

UK distributor ArtSystems, based in Nottingham, said the cost of upgrading for existing users of version 7 of the system was £1,360. Version 10 users can upgrade to the 12-month Advantage software contract for £790.
