Lecta is to take downtime at “several” of its mills due to the energy price crisis.

The Spain-headquartered group has seven manufacturing sites in Europe: five in Spain, Condat in France and Cartiere del Garda in Italy.

In a statement, Lecta said: “The current market environment is characterised by very high production costs, in particular energy costs, and weaker demand primarily due to destocking in the value chain.”

Because of this the business has decided to take temporary downtime at several of its paper mills.

“Downtime will be scheduled in such a way that high service levels for customers will be maintained,” Lecta stated.

The group did not specify which mills.

Lecta makes speciality papers for labels and flexible packaging, coated and uncoated paper for publishing and commercial printing, and a range of 100% recyclable and biodegradable functional papers.

Its annual manufacturing capacity is about 1.7m tons.

The company also said it remained confident in its financial outlook for Q4.
