Color-Logic maps out certified and licensed printers

Color-Logic, the metallic effects software firm, has launched an interactive map to help graphic designers and brand managers locate Color-Logic certified printers.

The map shows all Color-Logic licensed printers worldwide and for certified printers also includes the process the printer is certified for, including offset litho, flexo, digital printing, inkjet and screen printing.

Licensed printers appear as black dots and only include the printer’s name, whereas certified printers appear as colour-coded pins and include contact information and a link to the printer’s website.

Color-Logic sales and marketing director Mark Geeves said: “Licensed printers means have bought our license and have the legal right to produce Color-Logic files.

“Certification printers and converters need to submit our Test Form File for the process they have in house. Having just a black dot means those printers have not submitted any test forms or jobs with colour bars for the past 12 months.

“If they do not supply those forms we cannot guarantee to brands, agencies and design houses that the printer has kept up with our current version of software tools or press conditions to produce our files correctly.”

Geeves added that only certified premium printers were licensed to sell Color-Logic’s Design Suite or FX-Viewer software to other third parties such as agencies, brands or design houses.

“We are dealing with a variety of brands around the world and part of our commitment to them is to make sure our licensed printers are keeping up to date,” said Geeves.

“Plus, with turnover, sometimes the person who was working with our tools leaves and the next person in line to replace this person has not shown the same capability.

“This does not mean a brand, agency or design house cannot have files printed there but we cannot guarantee the results. This way printers who are keeping up to date are more visible on our website.

“We hope this will promote to our licensed printers the need for keeping up with the latest version of our software and verifying they can produce the correct results for their clients.”
