Adverset captains Leeds Bradford Airport’s flight of fancy

Yorkshire is going places. Specifically, it’s going all around the world, thanks to Leeds Bradford Airport. Open since 1931, West Yorkshire’s gateway to the rest of the world needed a bit of a revamp recently to reflect the adventure and optimism it represents.

What was produced?

As part of a rebrand for the airport, Welcome to Yorkshire commissioned Scarborough print and display producer Adverset to produce a vibrant, 50m-wide banner to go across the top of the building’s main facade.

What did the job entail?

Using an HP Latex 360 wide-format digital printer, Adverset printed on to 33 pre-cut panels of 3mm-thick, 1.5x1.8m aluminium composite. The 3.6m-wide Latex made use of a genuine set of CMYK inks from HP. Manchester-based MIDA Sign Services was then commissioned by Adverset to install the panels 15m up the face of the building in a banner spanning 50m.

What challenges were overcome?

Adverset sales and marketing manager Steve Atkinson said: “We have a great relationship with Welcome to Yorkshire. This is the third project of its kind we have worked on after we branded up the Network Rail building at York rail station and also branded up Leeds train station.

“Leeds Bradford Airport actually approached Welcome to Yorkshire to have this done having seen the job we did at Leeds train station. It is always a tight deadline with Welcome to Yorkshire.

“On the first day of fitting, we had to send the fitting crew home due to the winds being too high for the panels to be installed. Buying the panels already cut to size saved us a lot of time as we did not have to spend time on finishing them ourselves.”

What was the feedback?

Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive Gary Verity said: “Welcome to Yorkshire has been working hard to make sure people arriving into the county at any of our main transport hubs get a wonderful, colourful welcome.

“This powerful branding looks really great and is a fantastic sight for those using Leeds Bradford Airport. Recent improvements have really seen the airport up its game and we’re delighted to support their exciting ongoing plans that will benefit the whole region.”
