Me & my: InfoPrint 5000

Martyn Viquerat, director of document solutions at Transactis, tells how this machine is helping his firm to better serve its clients.

Describe your business
Transactis is a database marketing and transactional data firm. Using data resources, specialist knowledge and innovative technology, Transactis helps clients transform customer management and communication. Clients include Nationwide, Avis Europe and HM Revenue and Customs.

What does the machine do?
It produces transactional and transpromo documents for marketing campaigns that link to personalised web pages. By combining data, graphics and colour digital printing, Transactis personalises each customer statement depending on the status of their account and incorporating relevant product offer images and any relevant debt letters.

Why did you choose this particular machine?
The key reasons were ease-of-use, print quality, availability, InfoPrint’s strong track record, and ease of migration from our existing equipment.

Did you look at any other similar machines?
Yes, we also evaluated machines from Xerox, Kodak’s Versamark and the Océ Jetstream.

Why did you make the purchase?
We wanted to offer our clients colour transpromo services and the ability to meet financial services obligations that required new levels of flexibility.

What features do you particularly like?
Consistent quality is very important, as are reliability and ease of use. We migrated from laser printers and our operators were able to adapt easily to the new environment.

Is there anything that you dislike?
Like all commercial printers, we’d like ink to be cheaper.

Is there anything that you wish it had that it doesn’t?
Not for the foreseeable future.

How fast is it?
It runs at 64m per minute, although there is an option to double the speed if we need to.

How reliable is it?
Very reliable, we have never missed any SLA targets.

What’s the quality like?
The quality is impressive and consistent. This is important for clients for whom these documents represent an important brand communication.

How easy is it to use?
We believe it to be very easy compared to other inkjet technologies we evaluated.

How much time or money has it saved?
We have calculated that using the InfoPrint 5000 saved £1m a year compared to using pre-printed stocks. Previously, we found that clients could end up with stock overs or shortages depending on the performance of campaigns. Now we print everything on demand.

Has it won you any new work?
Yes we have won a number of new clients including Avis Europe. Clients are becoming more aware of the possibilities afforded by these sorts of solutions.

Would you say that it offers value for money?
Yes, because we understand the opportunities that full colour variable data offers and use it effectively.

Were there any difficulties experienced during the installation or after?
No, overall it was a very smooth and efficient installation.

What about the pre- and after-sale service?
It was of a high standard.

Who do you think the machine is right for?
Transactional printers looking to add precision marketing; for print-on-demand, where replacing pre-printed stocks for event driven marketing and for direct marketing campaigns where businesses want to offer one-to-one offers to a sizable customer base.

Under what circumstances would you buy another?
Demand for colour transpromo is growing, as evidenced by recent new business, and the InfoPrint 5000 is right up there for consideration in terms of quality and performance.
