Lauren is 20 and has been working in the printing industry for just over two years. She found her way into print via her love of art, and finds printing processes intriguing as a result.

What did you study, and did you have a particular career in mind?

I studied a Customer Service Level 2 NVQ – I was always interested in handling accounts for customers.

Did you know anything about print beforehand?

If I am honest, from what I have learned so far I did not know anything about print!

What does your current role entail?

I work in a team where we handle various accounts for customers worldwide – I process orders from start to finish, handle invoicing and reports, ensure the artwork works and handle larger accounts for tickets and certificates

What’s the most enjoyable or interesting thing about it?

There is always something new to learn about print, whether it’s artwork, inks or even security features

Do you have an ideal career path mapped out?

Within five years’ time I would like to be a manager for a customer services team or become a project manager

What would be your dream job (print related)?

I would love to own my own company processing both digital and paper print work

What would be your dream job (not print related)?

I would love to own my own company

Do you have a ‘side hustle’?

Unfortunately not, although I have been looking into doing a nail course – as I said before I love art!

Lifeboats by Jorja Smith

Which box set would you recommend?

My guilty pleasure is Gavin & Stacey!

What’s your most-used app?

Instagram – although I am steering away from this

What has surprised you most about working in the printing industry?

The amount of time and effort people are willing to put in, in order to fulfil the needs of the customer and to make the print an amazing finish. Also the equipment required and machinery used

What could the printing industry be doing more of to entice millennials into print?

I believe if print was more publicised both historically and up-to-date, more of this generation would become familiar with it. If we could make people more aware of the history of print and how it is vastly improving, more people would be interested in it, I have certainly learned that print is not just ink on paper

If you ruled the world...?

I would enforce a law that everyone would be kind to one another, kindness is key!
