The B2 sheetfed inkjet press becomes the first production digital press to be certified in this way as a result.
It has achieved the Fogra51 and Fogra52 accreditation for premium coated and uncoated woodfree substrates, as well as the ISO 12647-7 standard for contract proofing.
“The key thing is this certification is totally different to anything any production press has had before,” said Mark Stephenson, digital printing and press systems product manager at Fujifilm Graphic Systems EMEA.
“The other proofing devices on the Fogra list are wide-format inkjet printers. The Jet Press is the only production press on there, and the first five entries are now the Jet Press on different types of stock.”
In Japan, where wet proofing is still a major part of the market, Fujifilm has sold a number of Jet Presses specifically for proofing purposes.
“The major thing is that we can print onto standard offset stocks as opposed to needing special proofing papers. With special papers the cost of a proof can run into pounds in materials alone, whereas on the Jet Press we are talking about pennies, and we can produce one proof every second,” he added.
“One of our customers is doing virtually all of their proofing on the Jet Press because they can proof onto the actual material and do double-sided proofs, too. So they can produce a proper proof that is also a mock-up. It’s the fastest contract proofer on earth!”
The Jet Press 750S was launched at the end of last year. It prints simplex at 3,600sph, with automated handling of the content for double-sided jobs using barcodes via Fujifilm's workflow system.
Emmerson Press in Kenilworth, which installed the UK’s first Jet Press in 2016, recently upgraded to the 750S model.
The Fogra testing took place at Fujifilm’s Advanced Print Technology Centre in Brussels using its XMF ColorPath colour management software.
The “exhaustive” process encompassed: PDF/X conformance; proofing substrate colour; gloss and fluorescence; colour gamut accuracy; uniformity, permanence and light fastness; fading; long- and short-term repeatability; rub resistance; colorimetric tone value transfer; tone value reproduction limits; image register and resolving power; and margin information.
Tests were carried out on coated and uncoated offset stocks, coated inkjet paper, canvas and synthetic paper.
The Jet Press 750S has also been awarded Digital Press Certification and the ISO/PAS 15339 Master Elite Certification from the US-based Idealliance. “No other four colour digital device – other than Fujifilm's Jet Press 720S – has both of these accreditations,” Fujifilm stated.
