Star product: Mimaki CF3

CF3 is Mimakis new series of flatbed cutters. It consists of the 1610 and 1631 models and offers extended finishing options for UV-curable inkjet prints.

Mimaki’s introduction of the CF3 range follows the launch of its JF series of large format inkjet printers last year. The cutters handle the same sizes as the JF series, as well as the same types of ridged materials, including acrylic and aluminium.

The 1610 and 1631 machines cut ridged material up to 1x1.6m and 1.6x3.1m respectively at speeds of 5m per second. Each is equipped with three exchangeable heads: a router (M head), a reciprocating cutter (R1 head) and a tangible cutter (TF2 head).

The M head uses a high-speed spindle to cut plastics and other substrates with a maximum thickness of 50mm, while the R1 head cuts materials such as corrugated board up to 20mm thick using an osculating cutter. It has a range of tools including a pre-swivel cutter, high-pressure tangible cutter and creasing roller.

The TF2 head has a cutting force of up to 5kg on substrates that are 10mm thick. It also comes with a pen/swivel cutter and high-pressure tangible cutter.

A colour photo sensor detects printed registrations on the substrate to ensure accurate alignment. In addition, the vacuum table on the 1631 is divided into six zones that can be activated according to material size. The 1610 model is equipped with two vacuum zones.

Two software packages are available with the CF3 series to aid handling. Mimaki’s Product Manager software helps to set up cutting conditions and FineCut 7 assists the creation and import of data from design programmes such as Adobe Illustrator.
