Star Product: Komori Lithrone SX40

Komori is set to launch the Lithrone SX40, the latest model featuring its LS platform, which comes with a host of technical upgrades.

The SX40 has a maximum speed of 18,000 sheets per hour and handles sheet sizes up to 750x1,050mm. The firm said it has increased the speed of the machine’s fully automatic plate change, offering non-stop plate removal.

Komori has claimed the new model can change six plates in around two minutes, as well as offering a 35% reduction in job-to-job changeover times. An automated coater plate change is also included, aimed at increasing the kit’s speed. All controls are integrated through the model’s PQC console touchscreen.

Other improvements include a modified front lay area for better handling of lightweight materials. In addition, on top of the feeder pile, users can find an air containment system, which is designed to allow precise sheet transport with minimum amounts of air.

Within the printing unit, the water flow in the dampening system has been improved and the equipment’s ink fountain has been strengthened. The automated impression cylinder cleaning device has also been repositioned to allow room for additional interdeck dryers and air guides.

Several changes have been made to the coating deck, which now also includes automated plate changing, varnish circulation and blanket and coater impression cylinder cleaning.

The company said low emission levels have led to the press obtaining the BG environmental certificate. To achieve the standard, the kit had to reduce a range of waste emissions, run alcohol free and produce low noise levels.

The Lithrone SX40 will be showcased at Drupa 2008.
