Star product: Brandtjen & Kluge EHG

US-based manufacturer Brandtjen & Kluge’s half-sheet press was internationally launched at Drupa 2008, but was debuted at Chicago-based Graph Expo a year earlier.

Half-sheet refers to its B2 format, which is a first for the firm. It is available with foil stamping, die-cutting and embossing capabilities or solely with a die-cutter. The machine features a variable frequency electronic driver, which allows the press to operate at speeds between 900 and 1,700 impressions an hour.

The slower speed improves its folding coverage and embossing ability. It handles sheet sizes from 215x279mm to 559x762mm. Other functions include centrally adjustable impression strength, meaning the side arms can be lengthened or shortened simultaneously to maintain control of the platens. It also has a missed-sheet detector, vacuum pump,
suction feeder and electronic foil control system.
