UPM Solide: versatile range for a variety of applications

UPM’s Speciality Papers division has launched a new range of food-safe kraft papers including a new translucent paper that can be used as an alternative to plastics.

Papers in the new Solide range are all certified as safe for direct food contact, and all are recyclable in standard recycling streams.

The family comprises UPM Solide, Solide Lucent, Solide Smooth and Solide Strong.

Weights range from 45gsm to 90gsm, and target applications include food bags, wraps and sachets; carrier bags and for lamination.

Helsinki-headquartered bio-materials specialist UPM said the range offered good printability, convertibility, and varying levels of strength for different end-uses.

Dirk Ryckaert, sales director at UPM Specialty Paper, commented: “The UPM Solide kraft papers are produced using 100% renewable and strong fibres from sustainably managed forests.”

He described Solide Lucent as “a great alternative to plastics even on fast packaging lines where runability is key”.

The Solide range is available in FSC mix and PEFC certifications.
