Mutoh ValueJet in SGIA Awards double

Mutoh's ValueJet wide format printer registered an impressive double at last months' Speciality Graphic Imaging Association's (SGIA) 2012 'Product of the Year' awards In Las Vegas.

The ValueJet 1638 high speed sign printer, which has a print width of 1.6m, won the Poster size, solvent/latex printer less than 96" category. While its sister device, the ValueJet 2638, which has a print width of 2.6m, won the Grand format roll-to-roll, solvent/latex inks category.

Arthur Vanhoutte, president of Mutoh’s European operations, said the award had generated a lot of interest in the ValueJet 2638, which will be launched in January.

"The machines use two heads and eight channels which are staggered rather than being in a straight line. This allows them to print faster without compromising the quality and accuracy," he said.

The ValueJet 1638 costs £19,300, whereas the ValueJet 2638 will enter the market at £34,600.

"People ask why it’s so much more expensive but there’s more than meets the eye when you increase the print width. It takes more mechanics and electronics and has to be able to receive much larger data files," he said.

The ValueJet 1638 has a maximum speed of 36sqm per hour. It is a four-colour high speed printer which uses twin heads with Mutoh Eco Ultra CMYK inks. It also features Mutoh’s Intelligent Interweaving print technology.

The ValueJet 2638 prints up to 40sqm per hour. It also uses Mutoh Eco Ultra CMYK inks and prints directly onto a range of uncoated and coated substrates.
